History of Astrology & Common Misconceptions

History of Astrology & Common Misconceptions

Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial objects, such as the stars and planets, and their perceived influence on human affairs and the natural world.

ASTROLOGY IS NOT ASTRONOMY

ASTRONOMY is the study of the universe and its contents outside of Earth’s atmosphere. Astronomers examine the positions, motions, and properties of celestial objects.

ASTROLOGY studies how those positions, motions, and properties affect people and events on Earth.

ASTROLOGY is the correlation between celestial alignment and earthly events. It is not a causation but a correlation. The planets are not causing you to do anything.

What is Astrology?

Is Astrology a Science?

Science is “the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment”. Science uses trials & experiments to negate what is not truth. In ASTROLOGY we do not do that, but we are studying the correlation to increase the truth of what we are aware of.

Is Astrology an Art?

Astrology is NOT an art. “Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination.” ASTROLOGY is not an intuitive art expression, such as tarot, palmistry or fortune telling. ASTROLOGY is the study of correlations & patterns.

Is Astrology a religion?

Religion is “the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or Gods”. ASTROLOGY has nothing to do with any of that, Astrology is NOT a belief system, it is a mirroring phenomenal.

History of Astrology

Astrology has been used for thousands of years by civilizations who noticed the way the stars influenced their lives. Here is a brief overview of the history of Astrology:

  • Ancient Babylon: The earliest recorded use of astrology dates back to ancient Babylon around the 5th century BCE. The Babylonians used astrology to predict celestial events, such as eclipses, and to establish a lunar calendar.
  • Ancient Greece: Astrology was later adopted by the ancient Greeks, who developed a more sophisticated understanding of astrology and its connection to the divine. The Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras is credited with establishing astrology as a systematic discipline.
  • Hellenistic Astrology: During the Hellenistic period, astrology became a highly developed and respected discipline, with extensive treatises and textbooks written on the subject. The Hellenistic astrologers developed the concepts of the zodiac and the twelve signs, as well as the practice of casting birth charts.
  • Astrology in the Roman Empire: Astrology was introduced to the Roman Empire and became widely popular, with many notable figures, such as Julius Caesar, consulting astrologers.

  • Astrology in the Middle Ages: During the Middle Ages, astrology faced opposition from the Catholic Church, which saw it as a form of divination and superstition. Despite this, astrology continued to be practiced, especially among royalty and the wealthy.
  • The Renaissance: During the Renaissance, astrology experienced a resurgence in popularity, with notable figures such as Michel de Nostredame (Nostradamus) and William Shakespeare incorporating astrological themes in their work.
  • Modern Astrology: In the modern era, astrology has continued to evolve and has become a popular form of self-exploration and personal growth for many individuals. Overall, astrology has a rich and diverse history that spans thousands of years and multiple cultures.

Common Astrology Misconceptions

  • Astrology is a new age fad: While astrology has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years, it is a discipline that has been practiced for thousands of years and has a rich history and tradition.
  • Astrology is a pseudoscience: While astrology is not a science in the traditional sense, it is based on mathematical and astronomical principles and has been studied and practiced for thousands of years.
  • Astrology is a religion: Astrology is not a religion but is often associated with spirituality and belief in the interconnectedness of all things.
  • Astrology is only about sun signs: Sun signs, which are determined by one’s date of birth, are just one aspect of astrology. There are many other factors, such as the positions of other planets and the houses they are in, that also play a role in astrology.
  • All Astrologers are the same and have the same level of expertise. Simple NO! just like no teacher or doctor are the same!
  • Astrology is only relevant to Western culture. FALSE. No astrology dates back to ancient Babylon around the 5th century BCE. The Babylonians used astrology to predict celestial events, such as eclipses, and to establish a lunar calendar.
  • Astrology is a form of divination or fortune-telling: Astrology is not a form of divination like Tarot, or palmistry. Astrology is the study of celestial objects, such as the stars and planets, and their perceived influence on human affairs and the natural world.
  • Astrology is set in stone and cannot be changed: FALSE. We all have free will & can change what we don’t like if we choose to. Or we can choose to accept our “destiny” as we perceive it in our chart.
  • Astrology is only about sun signs: Sun signs, which are determined by one’s date of birth, are just one aspect of astrology. There are many other factors, such as the positions of other planets and the houses they are in, that also play a role in astrology.
  • Astrology is for entertainment: While horoscopes and astrology-themed quizzes may be entertaining, astrology as a discipline goes beyond mere entertainment and is a serious field of study for many.
  • Astrology is just about personality traits: it can also offer guidance on relationships, careers, and other areas of life.
  • Astrology is only for those who believe in it: Certainly, belief in astrology can enhance its effectiveness, but Astrology can also be used as a tool for self-discovery and understanding, regardless of one’s personal beliefs.
  • Astrology is based on superstition: The belief that Astrology is only for the superstitious and irrational is inaccurate. While astrology does have some roots in ancient superstitions, it is based on observations of celestial bodies and their effects on the natural world.
  • Everyone born under the same zodiac sign has the same personality and fate: of course not. humans are not divided into 12 zodiac signs only. Astrology is much more complex just like humans & there a lot of things that are taken into consideration when looking at someone’s chart
